The star of a TV documentary has decided to close his fast food shops after getting into debt.

Naz Choudhury, who co-owns Battersea's Real Burger World with Mark Viegas, appeared on Channel 4's documentary Risking It All when he set up the business in April 2004.

The two friends, who met at university, said they were "sick and tired of the same tasteless, processed, fast food options".

They championed using fresh ingredients while still serving food in minimal time and charged less than other gourmet burger outlets.

But Real Burger World had to shut both its stores one in Lavender Hill and one in Fulham after it accumulated debts of several hundred thousand pounds.

Mr Choudhury and Mr Viegas, had invested over £100,000 each into the business after selling their houses.

While they were opening their first branch, a television crew filmed them and the country watched as they opened their new restaurant.

But a follow-up look into the business on the show a year later saw cracks beginning to appear.

The programme showed Naz spending more time and effort opening the new, expensive-looking Fulham branch than engaging with customers at their flagship outlet.

Naz called the decision to shut the restaurants a "commercial decision".

He admitted they may have made mistakes but maintained they did the right thing in realising this and closing the stores.

Naz said: "There were a couple of situations when we took risks and possibly made the wrong decisions. There were a few things that we could have done better because we were over-stretched."

The company is now looking at ways to get investors interested and pay back its debts.

Despite having to shut two outlets Naz remained optimistic about the future.

He said: "We are looking at ways to resurrect it and hopefully it will be up and running again in the next couple of months just watch this space."
