A CABINET-MAKER who killed himself by inhaling exhaust fumes was taking medication carrying a warning it might cause suicidal tendencies.

Croydon Coroner's Court heard Neil Wythes was found dead in his dark blue Nissan Sunny car in Orchard Grove, Anerley, in July.

Mr Wythes, of Anerley Road, Anerley, linked a hosepipe from the exhaust to the front of his car.

The rear window was sealed with tape but the engine was no longer running when a passer-by called police.

Mr Wythes, 38, had been off work for a year with depression but had been getting over his alcohol problems.

At the inquest on November 15, his father Colin, 64, of Thanet Place, Croydon, said Mr Wythes was "a brilliant young lad".

Coroner Roy Palmer recorded a verdict of suicide.
