CHIGWELL School's Under 11 boys tennis squad smashed their way to the Midland Bank School title last September - but they've only just been rewarded. The tournament sponsors had been trying to get some T-shirts signed by British No.2 Tim Henman, whom they also endorse, but because he kept getting knocked out in the first round of all his tournaments earlier this year he was never in one place long enough to track him down.Chigwell's head of sport Dave Morrison explained: "They finally got hold of him in Florida having missed him at the Guardian Direct Championships in Battersea.''The squad, who have only just started playing competitive tennis, won the Midland Bank Essex regional tournament by whitewashing Elm Green 6-0 in the final.Mr Morrison added: "It is a great achievement. for the team. "They are a talented bunch of lads, not just excelling in tennis but many other sports as well."
The boys were coached by Chigwell's tennis coach Kevin Farrant, himself a former Essex doubles champion. They finally received their signed shirts and other prizes from local Midland Bank manager Martin Patterson on Monday.
