WITH quiet dignity and the professionalism of staff and security services, London's transport network is returning to normal.

The rush-hour roads into London were less congested than usual this morning, as thousands stayed at home rather than fight their way to work.

Schools in Westminster and Camden are also closed.

Yet already all but two Tube lines are operational once more, some with reduced services, some skipping stations, but the capital is essentially up and running.

The Hammersmith & City and the Circle lines remain closed, and repeated security alerts have shut several stations briefly like aftershocks following an earthquake. Liverpool Street Station, Charing Cross, and Euston stations were evacuated briefly again this morning.

The District line will not run between Edgware Road and High Street Kensington or to Olympia until further notice; and the Metropolitan line is not running between Baker Street and Aldgate.

London's Zone 1 buses are running near normal, though not surprisingly there are diversions around Russell Square, Aldgate and King's Cross, where police cordons remain and some roads are closed.

The airports are operating normally, through security is particularly tight and passengers may expect delays.

The congestion charge has been waived again today.
