The sensational Bellydance Superstars and The Desert Roses sway into the Ashcroft Theatre, Fairfield. Following last year's triumphant tour, the sensual production featuring stunning, supple dancers will delight the audience with authentic routines and Arabic music.

The troupe's instructional and performance DVDs are already international best-sellers, and a new CD/DVD combo simply entitled Bellydance Superstars and The Desert Roses released last month looks set to follow that success.

Bellydance Superstars and The Desert Roses first toured Europe late last summer, having arrived on the back of a 60-date US tour with the legendary Lollapalooza travelling festival.

Rave reviews followed them across Europe and they played eight sell-out back-to-back shows at London's Bloomsbury Theatre in September and appeared on ITV's This Morning and BBC's Blue Peter programmes.

Described in the press as "the new Riverdance", the belly-dancing extravaganza has been a total out-of-the-box success for the troupe and music business legend, Miles Copeland, their manager and founder of the troupe.

Copeland, one of the music industry's most colourful and hugely successful managers, formed Bellydance Superstars and The Desert Roses almost two years ago and it consists of some of the best belly dancers currently performing in the world.

Aged between 21 and 38, many of the dancers are professional teachers of the art.

They perform a cross-section of tribal, Egyptian and cabaret styles and plan to take the belly-dancing art into the mainstream.

Belly-dancing in America is hailed as a great cardiovascular workout with the dance's isolated movements of the abdomen circular, vibrating, angular and rolling toning the stomach, lower body and back.

Critics and the public alike have been captivated by the sheer vitality and simmering sexiness of belly-dancing, and belly-dance schools, teachers, and workshops are all over the UK and Europe.

Tickets for the Fairfield show at 7.45pm on Sunday, May 15, are £25 and £18.50 from the Fairfield box office on 020 8688 9291.

  • Charlotte Desorgher holds a weekly belly-dancing class in the Green Room at Fairfield every Tuesday evening.
