A LARGE team of police officers is set to take to the streets of Golders Green today to quiz residents about the murder of a Jewish pensioner.

Police are stepping up their investigation a week after 85-year-old Anne Mendel was found stabbed to death at her home in Elmcroft Crescent.

Detectives believe Mrs Mendel may have disturbed burglars at her home.

Her husband, Leonard Mendel, 80, returned home at approx 11.15am on Monday March 14 to discover his wife lying on the floor.

The attack is believed to have taken place between 10am and 11.15am. A post mortem revealed that the cause of death was stab wounds.

Police will be raising awareness about the murder by handing out leaflets and stopping and speaking to passing motorists and members of the public.

The mobile police station at Brent Cross tube will be used to allow officers to speak to commuters using the station. The police are working closely with the Jewish community.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious vehicles, or anyone loitering or acting suspiciously in the Elmcroft Crescent area between 10am and 11.15am on Monday March 14.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has been a victim of burglary but have not reported it to police.
