As the bacon and sausages sizzle in your pan or the beef in your oven browns to a turn, do you spare a thought for the kind of life the animal had?

Research shows over 78 per cent of shoppers are questioning the conditions in which animals are kept and are demanding clearer labelling on foods derived from animals.

To provide shoppers with a label they can trust, the RSPCA has set up Freedom Food. The scheme aims to improve the lives of Britain's 750 million farm animals. Unlike other welfare schemes, it covers every stage of the animal's life -- not just conditions on the farm.

The RSPCA has no commercial interest in the scheme and all profits from Freedom Food are ploughed back into further research into farm animal welfare.

Tesco shares the RSPCA's aim to raise the standards of farm animal welfare. Through its new Tesco producers' club, it is able to bring shoppers Freedom Food products that combine quality, value for money and the high standards of welfare demanded by the RSPCA's scheme.

Tesco in Potters Bar now stocks a full range of Freedom Food fresh meats at its fresh meat counter -- beef, pork, lamb, chicken and turkey. And Freedom Food bacon and sausages are available from the delicatessen counter.

To mark the opening of the Freedom Food fresh meat counter, LifeTimes is offering readers the chance to win a share in £250 worth of Tesco vouchers.

There is a first prize of £150 worth of vouchers, a second prize of £50 worth and two runner-up prizes of £25 worth of Tesco vouchers.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply answer the following question correctly and send your entry to Freedom Food competition, LifeTimes, Hendon and Finchley Times, 71 Church Road, Hendon NW4 4DN.

The closing date is January 21. Only one entry per household please. Normal competition rules apply.
