THE family of ex-councillor Tony Dunn, who died last week, say they have been inundated with messages and tributes.

More than one hundred cards and letters of condolence have been received by Mr Dunn’s wife Ann and three children who live in Terrington Hill, Marlow.

Mrs Dunn said she was “proud” to have received the tributes.

“The overwhelming support shown to us has meant a lot to me and my family. It is plain to see that Tony will be sadly missed by a great many people,” she said.

She said there had been so many floral tributes the house had become “like a florists shop”.

Mr Dunn died in a car blaze in Medmenham. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Hs funeral will take place on March 10 at midday in All Saints Church, Marlow.

Meanwhile further tributes have come in for the former chartered surveyor with one resident proposing a bench in his memory.

Tony Fewell suggested the seat would be a fitting tribute as it was an idea Mr Dunn had once raised himself.

He said: “Tony Dunn was a most approachable councillor, always ready to listen to complaints or suggestions, either by meeting him informally shopping in the town or by telephone.

"I'll see what I can do" was his usual response.

“One suggestion from residents he was considering was to place a bench half way up Barnards Hill for weary walkers to take a breather on their way up or down the hill.

“It would be a significant gesture if this proposal could be carried through in his memory.”

Marlow Town Councillors stood for a minute’s silence at a meeting on Tuesday night.

Clerk Howard Bellairs told the Free Press: “I think we are all very shocked by what’s happened both the staff and those members who knew him for a number of years as a town councillor and on the planning committee.

“I always found him very helpful and he was very knowledgeable on planning issues.

“I always felt he was a loss to the council and appreciated he was a very committed councillor to Marlow and to hep the people in his ward.

He added: “He received a lot of emails from residents and was continually trying to work for the benefit of them.”

Little Marlow Parish Councillor Barbara Wallis said: “I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Tony Dunn, especially the way it happened.

“I met him from time to time over a number of years, and although we did not always agree, I respected his efforts on behalf of his clients.

“The last time we met was at the Westhorpe Park Inquiry when he bravely (or foolhardily) suggested an alternative site for the Football Club.

“He and his ideas were publicly rubbished by the North West Estates' QC. I am so sorry Tony did not live to see the Inspector's decision.”

Another reader e-mailed: “Ann, I am so very sorry to hear the news about Tony.

"All our thoughts are with you and your family. With love from Anita Rich.”
