An ambitious green campaigner is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with UN delegates and world leaders at a climate change summit in Copenhagen next month.
Niel Bowerman, 22, of Chiswick, will travel to the capital of Denmark with 23 other members of the UK Youth Climate Coalition, carrying placards and wearing T-shirts saying: “How old will you be in 2050?”.
The former Belmont Primary School pupil and Oxford student said: “The reason we are using ‘how old will you be in 2050?’ as our campaign slogan is because our generation will be affected by what will be decided in Copenhagen, yet the people who are negotiating now won’t be.
“The average age of the people involved with these vital climate talks is 45.”
Earlier this week Mr Bowerman, who is reading climate physics at Oxford, gave a speech at the Environment Agency’s annual conference in London, offering a youth’s perspective on the effects and threats of climate change.
