The Dartford Crossing is the most stressful section of the M25, a survey has revealed.

The drivers interviewed were asked to compile a stress map, with the results showing anxiety levels increased on approaching the Dartford Toll as motorists worried whether they had the right change.

Their stress levels were made worse by the expansion of traffic from three lanes to eight.

The survey was compiled by the AA, whose spokesman Paul Watters defended the London orbital.

He said: "Everyone forgets, before the M25, you had to travel through central London to drive from Kent to the Midlands."
