THE third phase of the New Harrow Project was officially launched in Kenton on Wednesday last week by council leader Councillor Archie Foulds and the Mayor, Councillor Mano Dharmarajah.

As well as launch events at Kingsbury Circle and Belmont Circle, a roadshow visited Priestmead, Elmgrove, Glebe and Kenmore first and middle schools.

Project team members explained this phase of the project, which is costing £350,000, and showed pupils some of the new equipment to be used to clean up their neighbourhoods.

The project started with an initial "deep clean" of shopping areas, residential streets and parks by the 20-strong Kenton team, which will now concentrate on keeping up the high standards and working with the community.

The council said the working hours, 6am to 10pm on the streets, and 8am to 6pm at the customer service centre, would allow residents' concerns to be swiftly dealed with.

Specific projects planned by the Kenton team include working with pupils and staff to improve the area around of Kenmore Park Middle School, putting new litter bins into shopping, and clearing the subway near Elmgrove School.

Operations manager Jerry Hickman said: "The team has been specially recruited to work with residents to re-energise the area and make it a great place to live and work."

Councillor Foulds, ward councillor for Kenton East, said: "We have started the new year with a clean slate.
