A MOTHER-OF-TWO got treated to a home-cooked meal by a celebrity chef who wanted to try out her family recipe.

Gregg Wallace, renowned for his charismatic presence on Masterchef, came to Diane Aslett’s house in Leamington Avenue, Bromley to cook her family’s version of cottage pie.

This was after the recipe was submitted in a competition to find the best family dishes.

Gregg said: “I picked it because it’s so flavoursome but it’s not difficult to do.

“When I’m feeding the family I like to be round the table with a big dish, spooning it out yourself.”

Diane explained she was passed down the recipe from her mother who in turn was given it by her mother.

It contains celery and other vegetables to give it a distinctive flavour.

The 52-year-old said: "My son James saw the competition advertised and he submitted my recipe without me knowing.

"And then he confessed and told me it had been selected.”

Gregg cooked and ate the meal with Diane and her 88-year-old mother Dorethy Brundish from Lee.

Diane, a development officer for Age Concern and Help the Aged, said: "We are addicted to Masterchef and we love Gregg Wallace- he is great."
