The family of Tulse Hill’s Jean Charles de Menezes are to ask Mayor Boris Johnson to take action against officers involved in his shooting.

The family will write to Mr Johnson in the next few days calling for the senior commander who oversaw the bungled surveillance operation which led to his shooting by firearms officers to be sacked.

The jury at the inquest into Mr de Menezes’ death found a number of faults in the operation headed by Commander Cressida Dick in which the Brazilian electrician was shot in Stockwell Tube in 2005 because police thought he was a suicide bomber.

In letters to the London Mayor and the Home Secretary the de Menezes family will question whether Ms Dick is fit to be in office.

A spokeswoman for the family said they would also be seeking meetings face-to-face meetings with Mr Johnson, who is the head of the Metropolitan Police Authority and Jacqui Smith, to demand action against officers involved in the shooting.

The family is also preparing to fight a judicial review of the coroner’s decision at the inquest not to allow the jury the option of giving an unlawful killing verdict.

Sir Michael Wright said there was insufficient evidence to suggest any officer was responsible for serious offences such as manslaughter or murder.

The jury recorded an open verdict on his death.

A spokesman for the family told the Sunday Mirror they would be seeking around £300,000 in compensation from the Met.
