Police have offered a £10,000 reward and issued CCTV footage on the anniversary of Damian Cope’s murder.

The 22-year-old was shot in the stomach on 29 July 2002 on Great Queen Street, at the junction with Newton Street, WC2. Police are offering the reward for information leading to the conviction of his killer.

An ambulance was called to the injured Damian at 1.15am.

Damian was taken to University College Hospital were he died at 6:35 that morning.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said Operation Trident have taken the unusual step of issuing CCTV in an appeal for those people pictured in the foyer area of the club to come forward.

About six people are pictured standing outside an office building near Browns Nightclub, about 50 metres from The George pub.

“We believe one shot was fired wounding Damian in the stomach.

“Damian had been enjoying a night out in Brown's Nightclub on the night.

He returned to the club suffering a gunshot wound and seeking assistance.” A post mortem at St Pancras mortuary gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the stomach.

“We are keeping an open mind regarding motive at this stage.” An incident room has opened at Operation Trident, Putney.

DI Neligan said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who were in the Foyer area of Brown's nightclub or in the nearby vicinity to contact police.

"Were you in the club? Did you see a number of people milling around on the corner of Great Queen Street at around 1am or perhaps you saw the shooting occur? Do you know who is responsible?

"I would urge anyone who may have information to call me or my team. You may be entitled to a £10,000 reward."

His mother Lucy Cope made an appeal a week after Damian died.

She said: "Damian was very outgoing and lived life to the full. He was a keen sportsman and recently took his exams to be a music technician. He was so loved and well respected among his family and friends that I can't understand why this has happened.” "He was so loved and well respected and I can't understand why someone would want to kill him.

"This was a cold-blooded murder and I want the person who did this to give himself up to the police. I want whoever did this to have their day in court and I want justice for Damian.

"I appeal to friends of Damian who may have been with him on that fateful Monday night and members of the public who may have seen anything to come forward and help police with their enquiries. I want anyone who knows anything to come forward, no matter how small they feel that information is."
