Tottenham Hotspur should lose their name if they move out of the area – that is the message of a report released this week.

The review, carried out by the London Assembly's Sport Committee, says the Football Association should insist that a club's name should match its location – following the débacle surrounding Wimbledon FC's move to Milton Keynes.

The committee also discovered that seven of the capital's 11 clubs are redeveloping or considering a move away from their current homes.

Spurs, who have been based in High Road, Tottenham, for more than 100 years, have recently looked into the possibility of moving out of the borough to benefit from better transport links and a bigger stadium. But Haringey Council and a large proportion of the fans are keen for the club to stay in Tottenham.

Meg Hillier, chairwoman of the Sport Committee, said: "We do not want to see more clubs leave London – football is part of the soul of our city, creating a sense of identity in a world of diversity.

"Stadiums do play a valuable part in boosting communities and retaining sporting heritage. Football in London will suffer if clubs are not helped to secure their home."

Should Spurs relocate and be forced to find a new name? What do you think the new name should be?
