A mother has told of her horror at seeing her husband being attacked in broad daylight in front of their three-year-old daughter.

The 34-year-old man was on his way to a fundraising meal for victims of the recent Pakistan earthquake at TKC Chaudhry's restaurant in Southall Broadway with his family when the attack happened at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

His 27-year-old wife told the Ealing Times: “We were walking down the Broadway and had just got off the bus at the Lady Margaret Road junction when it started raining really hard.

“We took cover with other people under an awning at a sari shop, and were just stood there waiting for the rain to stop.

“A guy pulled up at a red light on his bike and started looking at my husband. Then he started shouting 'what are you looking at?' and became really aggressive”

At this point it is alleged the man threw down his bike and walked up to the victim, who is from Pakistan, and punched him in the face three times, before he slipped over.

His wife continued: “I was just so shocked. I did not know what to do. There were all these people stood there watching but no-one tried to help or even phone the police.

“One woman did get hold of my daughter and stop her from coming over, which I'm really grateful for. But I didn't get a chance to thank her as she disappeared when the police arrived.”

The victim, who is a doctor, was taken to hospital and treated for facial injuries, and the attack has left his daughter so traumatised she has started wetting the bed.

His wife said: “My daughter keep asking 'Where is that bad man? Why did he keep hitting daddy?', and we have to try and comfort her.

“I was born and bred in Southall and it used to be such a nice close community but now I don't know what's happened to it.

“I'm scared for my daughter growing up as what sort of society is she going to be living in? Why are people so scared to call the police? They enjoyed the show then disappeared when the police came.”

A 20-year-old man from Hayes has been arrested and released on bail to return to police in December.
