A new £1.5 million angiography unit at Barnet Hospital will be officially opened by the Mayor of Barnet next week.
Patients who have previously had to travel out of the borough for heart treatment will now be able to receive care in Barnet.
Angiography is a specialist procedure that uses an injection of liquid dye to make arteries clearly visible on x-rays.
The test can show exactly where narrowings in the coronary arteries are and can also help determine what sort of treatment is necessary for a person with coronary heart disease or angina.
The mayor, Councillor John Marshall, will mark the unit's opening by unveiling a plaque in front of invited guests on November 21.
He said: "To be opening a state of the art unit such as this is a great privilege as I know what a positive impact it will make to both the patients and staff of Barnet Hospital."
