Some south London Thameslink services are set to be affected by engineering work this May bank holiday weekend.

With the UK set for a long weekend this May, plenty of people will be planning trips to celebrate the extra day off.

This weekend some Thameslink services in and out of south London will be affected by planned works with some services running to an amended timetable.

Here are the full details:

Engineering works to affect services via Denmark Hill

When? Saturday, May 25 – Monday, May 27

For the whole of the bank holiday weekend, engineering work in the Brixton and Nunhead area will affect some lines over the weekend.

As a result, Thameslink trains to and from Sevenoaks or Orpington will be diverted to run via Herne Hill, Kent House and Beckenham Junction and will call at these additional stations on the route.

South London stations affected:

  • Peckham Rye
  • Nunhead
  • Crofton Park
  • Catford
  • Bellingham
  • Beckenham Hill
  • Ravensbourne
  • Shortlands
  • Bromley South
  • Bickley
  • Petts Wood
  • Orpington
  • St. Mary Cray

Alternative travel over the bank holiday weekend

Over the weekend, a replacement bus service will run between Herne Hill and Bromley South, calling at all stations via Catford except Nunhead and Ravensbourne and calling additionally at Beckenham Junction.

Thameslink customers are being advised to use London Bus Routes to travel to Nunhead and Ravensbourne.  

Amended Thameslink service to and from London Bridge

When? Sunday, May 26

On Sunday, engineering work between London Bridge and New Cross Gate will affect some lines.

Thameslink trains between Cambridge or Peterborough or Bedford and Three Bridges or Horsham or Brighton will not call at London Bridge.

Thameslink services running to and from Sutton will only run via Wimbledon.

No trains will call at Mitcham Eastfields, Mitcham Junction, Hackbridge or Carshalton, with Thameslink customers advised to use Southern services instead.

Alternative travel on Sunday

Thameslink has advised its customers that tickets will be accepted on the following alternative routes:

  • Southeastern trains between London Cannon Street and Plumstead.
  • London Buses between Kings Cross St Pancras – London Bridge – Elephant & Castle
  • Elizabeth Line between Farringdon and Abbey Wood.
  • London Underground between West Hampstead and London Bridge.
  • London Underground between Kings Cross / St Pancras and London Bridge.
  • London Underground and Docklands Light Railway between London Bridge and Woolwich Arsenal.
  • London Underground between Westminster and Monument.
