Greenwich has been rated as one of the happiest boroughs in south east London, and these photos really show why it captures the hearts of tourists and locals alike.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has used the results of a national survey which asked people to rate their level of happiness during the 12 months up to March 2023 to give district and borough council areas an average figure.
People were asked to rate their life satisfaction, happiness, and anxiety levels out of 10.
Of all of the boroughs in south east London, Greenwich was rated as number one.
A popular Greenwich attraction setting it apart from other parts of London is the Cutty Sark – the world’s sole surviving tea clipper.
It is a legendary 19th century ship that used to bring tea back from China at record breaking speeds that you can step aboard in the borough.
The ship can be found in the heart of Greenwich and it is easy to find because of its immense size.
The IFS Cloud Cable Car is popular among both tourists and Londoners, with it being used by visitors to experience the ultimate view of the city, it is also used by many Londoners as a creative way to commute across the river.
It costs £6 per trip or a £12 return and takes around ten minutes to get from one side of the Thames to the other.
The O2 arena is an incredible asset to Greenwich with live music performances taking place there all the time.
You can even scale the arena for 360 degree views of London if the cable car isn’t to your liking.
Greenwich market has everything you could want from antiques, to food, to pubs and crafts.
The market has a buzzing vibe and a ceiling lined with windows making it light and airy in the summer but still protecting shoppers from the elements in the winter.
Speaking of pubs, there are numerous pubs throughout Greenwich to enjoy a pint at – whether you are looking for something traditional, quirky or modern it’s all there.
As we head into the summer months, the Trafalgar Tavern is a popular choice as it sits right on the river, giving customers a relaxing, sunny atmosphere to enjoy a pint.
Greenwich park is a hub of different things to do with tennis courts, the home of the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory of Greenwich, tennis courts and even Bridgerton filming locations to spot.
Another thing to do in Greenwich is set sail on a Thames cruise, heading up and down the river to see even more of London or even an uber boat which can take you all the way to Putney.
The streets of Greenwich are lined with independent restaurants and coffee shops, making it feel unique and giving it a sense of character.
