A taste of real Cornish fare has arrived in Hackney Wick for a month, with top chef Tom Brown turning his restaurant into a West Country farm outlet.

Tom’s Cornerstone eatery in Prince Edward Road has a deal with Cornish Orchards for Avalen, a new naturally-sparkling cider made in the champagne method, with only 5,000 bottles in existence.

It is being added to his sparkling wine menu to go with his hand-picked food pairings.

The cider being sold for a limited time till May 12 is made using heritage apples from the Cornish Orchards farm. Freshly-picked apples are pressed on the farm where they grow, then hand-blended into a cider, crafted like Champagne.

A limited-edition Spritz made with a fig leaf liqueur has also been added to the wine list to create what claims to “taste like summer”.

The orchard near the seaside resort of Looe holds daily cider-and-cheese tastings — but you have to go down to the farm for that.
