Tucked away just off of Oxford Street is a restaurant that will delight any palate – although maybe not the wallet. Hakkasan serves “modern Cantonese cuisine”, with meats and seafood dishes that leave you both stuffed and wanting the entire rest of the menu at the same time.

Walking down the steps into the restaurant, you have no idea what to expect – so when you are greeted by the ambient lights and smells that make your stomach grumble in anticipation, you will no doubt find yourself excited. With food that is both creative, delicious, and visually stunning, Hakkasan has it all; grilled octopus with a texture like you’ve never had, fish that melts in your mouth, and meat that’s so tender you’d think it didn’t come from an animal. You can chose from set menus or dine a la carte – which I would personally go for usually, but on this occasion there is no downside to any of the courses on ANY of the set menus- and I’m what you might call a bit of a picky eater.

After visiting with my friend, Neve, she said that “I might sell my soul for whatever they put in this fish- its too good to be real” – and I can’t say that I don’t agree.

I can only think of two downsides to the restaurant. One: being underground, there isn’t any mobile data, and their Wi-Fi isn’t the best – but on the other hand, its quite nice to ignore the phone and just chat with friends and family. I wouldn’t come here if you are expecting an important phone call though. Secondly, its slightly out of budget from most – as much as I love it, I doubt I would be able to retire early if I made eating here a regular occurrence. But for a special occasion… this is the perfect restaurant for a fantastic meal.
