Holi is an important celebration in the South Asian community, which is being celebrated at the Tiffin Girls’ School on the 1st of May to celebrate the extended diversity amongst our student and staff community, and is being hosted by y10 students, in which other year 10 students can participate in as a celebration for the end of their exam period.

Year 10 student Divina Kevlani, hosting the Holi celebration this year, said “Me, Freya, and Shrishti organised Holi because we felt it was a nice way to bring the community together, mainly people who celebrated Holi, and we did this year 8 and it was really good fun. We think Holi is a nice celebration that brings the school community together and it is a lot of fun and a way to learn about diversity and inclusion.”

As it is a festival of colours, we are celebrating Holi by the throwing of coloured powders at one another, and students are suggested to bring a change of clothes for the duration of the celebration if we are attending, and sunglasses to protect our eyes! We will be on the tennis courts outside for half an hour during a lunchtime and playing music to get the most out of this wonderful opportunity and experience, despite clashing with the fundraising colour event happening at our school as well!

At the Tiffin Girls’ school, Holi was hosted as a free celebration fostering cultural appreciation and inclusivity among our diverse student body, promoting understanding and unity. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for students to embrace creativity, teamwork, and joy through vibrant festivities. Holi, this festival of colours, symbolises the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring, allowing students to indulge in its celebration through throwing coloured powders and water to unite individuals within our community.
