Billie Eilish has taken London by storm, after announcing six tour dates next summer at The O2 Arena following the release of her upcoming album, “Hit Me Hard And Soft”. Eilish’s popularity leaves no doubt that her 81-date world tour will be a huge hit; the 22 year-old will start the tour in Canada on the 29th of September, before moving across to Europe next April.

The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer has announced she plans to release the album (her third record) all “in one go”. Fans, however, speculate that tickets for the tour, which go on sale on the 3rd of May, may be a little more difficult to get their hands on: although her last tour saw a price range between £47 and £99, prices may have increased due to her new Barbie fame and growth as an artist. Estimations based on other locations range from £66 to £168.

Billie is a long-standing climate campaigner, committed to ensuring the “climate positive” impact of her shows, as was achieved in her last tour in 2022. She has previously partnered with Reverb, a non-profit organisation promoting sustainability in the music industry, and plans to introduce similar initiatives on this tour, to make it her most sustainable yet. This includes releasing her album using recycled vinyl, offering plant-based food options, reducing single-use plastics and donating a portion of the profits to climate projects. There will also be “eco-villages” at the shows, where fans can learn more about these sustainability efforts.

This decision comes amid a boom in vinyl sales: 5.9 million units were sold in the UK alone last year. Researchers from Keele University estimate that each record contains around 135g of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), with a staggering carbon footprint of 0.5kg Carbon Dioxide. This means that even before accounting for transport and packaging, this equates to 2,700 tonnes of CO2 released.

Eilish felt compelled to tackle the problem rather than contribute: “My parents have always kept me well informed… every action we take has an impact somewhere or on someone, good or bad, and that has always stuck with me”.

There is no doubt that Billie’s trailblazing approach and climate decisions will make the tour a roaring success, both as a brilliant and entertaining series of concerts, a showcase of her talent and career, and a mindful tribute to mother nature.
