On 24 April 2024, the Music Department of Parmiter’s School in Garston held their annual Summer / Leavers’ Concert, which featured many of the Senior groups such as the school Orchestra, Concert Band and Senior Choir, as well as some of the smaller ones like Senior Strings, Chamber Choir and String Ensemble.

The concert was the final musical performance for the Year 13 students who will be leaving the school at the end of the academic year to pursue further education or otherwise, as well as the Year 11 students who will not be returning for Parmiter’s Sixth Form.

As well as the usual groups, there were several exclusive to this year’s concert, primarily those comprised of Year 13 players, with both the Wind Quintet and High Elms Brass making an appearance as part of the programme.

Traditionally, the Year 13 leavers will also prepare a song or piece to perform at the end of the concert, and this year was no different! The leavers performed an arrangement of “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” by Bobby Darin which utilised every student’s unique talents and instruments, and which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, teachers, and fellow students alike.

One of the most touching moments of the concert every year is the speeches given about each of the Year 13 Leavers in turn by the head of the Music Department, which describe their journey through school Music and where they are going on to, giving them a heartfelt send-off to wherever the next stage of their life takes them.

Overall, the concert was a huge success with fantastic turnout and a good time was had by all!
