A gym in Beckenham has reopened after a refurb worth £400,000, with a new layout, lighting, and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Spa at Beckenham, run by Mytime Active, has had the facelift as part of a long-term, multi-phase investment to offer high-end health and wellness facilities.

The gym was closed throughout March and into April for the renovations, which have seen the creation of designated zones each indicated by different coloured lighting.

Light blue represents health-oriented training, purple is for cardiovascular equipment, and dark blue indicates free weights.

It is all designed to help users flow through the gym, and help members progress through the equipment.

CEO of Mytime Active Jason Stanton said: "Our priority remains to invest in our services and assets, continually upgrading facilities to ensure we have the very best equipment there is to offer.

"We hope the gym refurbishment at The Spa will encourage even more people to try out the enhanced facilities we have to offer."

The gym now boasts a state-of-the-art Concept2 SkiErg®, designed to emulate the movement of cross-country skiers for a full body workout.

Other new additions include a Hammer Strength self-powered HD Tread, a Life Fitness Air Bike, and a new Power Plate which uses PrecisionWave Technology.

This device sends tiny vibrations through the body, activating muscles up to 138 per cent more than a standard workout.

The eGym equipment, specifically designed for strengthening and toning, is personalised for each user.

Mr Stanton added: "The new layout and lighting have been carefully considered to minimise any gym intimidation and encourage progression once members are more comfortable with the gym floor setting and equipment.

"The zonal lighting simplifies navigation and has been selected based on a psychological match to the activity being undertaken.

"Lighting can really make a difference to the focus, energy and mood of a fitness space."

In addition to the new equipment, Mytime Active has introduced group training classes in the gym.

These small, bookable sessions will help increase interaction and exercise education, with members able to get to know the new kit in action.

This initiative creates an alternative training environment for those who might not enjoy conventional group exercise classes.
