Pets are loyal companions and family to many. But has the inflation crisis rid us of the joy - the adventure of being a pet owner? Or to even have a pet at all?

I interviewed a couple of people, to find out their opinions about how inflation has affected pets in general regarding things like food and medical care.

How has inflation impacted your spending on pet-related expenses?

"Inflation has definitely impacted spending on pet-related expenses " because in this case the owners cook for their dog and since the prices of things like meat and vegetables have gone up, it increases expenses.

Inflation may not affect everyone equally when it comes to pet-related expenses, as it ultimately depends on the size and needs of your pet. Feeding a smaller pet may not cost as much, making inflation less impactful.

Do you find pet insurance/Vet visits helpful?

A woman who has been around animals all her life, from dogs to horses to tortoises, has a unique perspective on pet insurance and Vet visits. Her 11-year-old dog has severe heart problems that make medical care quite expensive. Despite this, she believes that pet insurance isn't the way to go. According to her, "One of my Vet's always told me it was far easier if we put aside a fiver every week because it works out much cheaper than paying for insurance." It's worth noting that when treating a horse, it costs less than it does when treating a dog at the Vet.

However other owners believe"Pet insurance is very helpful, particularly in cases of accidents. Although they hope to never have to use it, they feel that the cost is reasonable and it can save a lot of money in case of emergencies.

On the other hand, some owners also believe that it's not worth paying for pet insurance because the price increases yearly. They suggest creating a savings account for your pet instead, by putting some money aside each month. They think that unless something significant happens to your pet, it's better to avoid the high costs of Vet fees, which they consider to be a rip-off.

Have you noticed any changes in the affordability of pet supplies due to inflation?

Food price changes have made life more expensive, "A pack of dog food that used to cost £16.99 now costs £20. The difference in pricing is overrated." However, other owners believe that the cost of dog food depends on individual preferences and brands chosen by the owner.

I hope this article has given you a well-rounded insight into how inflation has affected the lives of pets.
