On the 17th of April, Woodhouse College students were asked to wear their culture clothes to celebrate Culture Day, and were told there would be stalls, a runway and a Woodhouse World Cup football match, which was very popular, with many attending to support their countries.

Most students will agree that Woodhouse, without doubt, delivered their promises and made Culture Day a brilliant, entertaining and memorable event.

Firstly, there were many stalls, where students sold traditional food from their countries (for example Turkish baklava and South American cuisine), country themed items such as bracelets featuring the colours of flags, and many offered other cultural things, including a stall where you could get henna done on your hand!

Music accompanied the excitement of students in our student hub, featuring many cultural songs and songs that are currently trending. These songs had many students dancing in groups with their friends around the speaker, encouraging many more to join in the fun.

The runway, hosted by the EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), was certainly the highlight for many students. It began with speeches from organisers to thank students for attending and to spread positivity and to embrace cultures. Many societies, such as the Albanian, Afro - Caribbean, and Latino - Hispanic societies confidently and proudly hit the runway, showing off their beautiful cultural clothing and showcasing performances, such as dances to traditional music, to a hall filled with students.

A student at Woodhouse had this to say about Culture Day, ‘I think it was fun. It was nice to see lots of people proudly dressing up. I do think it was a bit packed, the weather was nice, and I feel like maybe it could have been set up outside. The runway was definitely the best part. Of course, the system set up to get inside was just inefficient, but the performances were very good.’

With teachers joyously taking pictures of Woodhouse students in cultural clothing holding their countries’ flag, and students partaking in many activities with curiosity and enthusiasm, its safe to say that Woodhouse Culture Day 2024 was a massive success.
