The demolition of an empty pub in Harold Hill, that has been shut since 2016, has officially been approved by Havering Council.
Works to bulldoze the Pompadours pub in Edenhall Road started in February and a planning application sent on March 1 by Hilldene Estate Ltd sought a Certificate of Lawfulness to mark the milestone.
The council has granted the application, acknowledging the beginning of demolition works to make way for 21 new homes.

Approved in February 2021, the plans include 15 three-bed and six two-bed homes, 36 car parking spaces and 42 cycle spaces.
Thirty-five percent of these are said to be earmarked for 'affordable' housing.
The pub has been vacant since it shut down in 2016, with fires and fly-tipping reported there in 2017.
Initial plans to redevelop the site for housing in 2015 were opposed by local people and that application was turned down by the council.
