Two young football fans are set to hike 78 miles over the course of three days to watch their favourite team, Charlton Athletic, play at Cambridge United.

Nick Hurst and Josh Wilcox, both aged 20, started their journey at Charlton’s home ground The Valley in south east London.

The Addicks fans are walking to Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium with the goal of getting there in time for the 3pm kick-off tomorrow (Saturday, April 13).

The pair, from Sidcup, are doing the sponsored walk in memory of Nick’s grandmother Sylvia Cue.

She passed away in December 2021 aged 84 after a 15-year battle with dementia.

Nick said: "I got the idea after my nan passed and thought I wanted to do something to remember her.

"We are really hoping that we can hit the £3,500 mark this year but we do the walk anyway and it every penny makes a difference to people with Alzheimer's."

So far, the two have smashed their initial £1,000 target and have raised over £2,000.

This is the third stadium trek that Nick has embarked upon, but his hirst one with company as Josh takes on the challenge as well.

Nick started this task three years ago shortly after Sylvia passed away.

His two previous journeys ended in Cambridge and Ipswich.

Nick and Josh have averaged three miles-an-hour so far and are well on-track to make it to the stadium before kick-off.

Nick said: "We have had Charlton fans say they're going to buy us pints after the game - but I think we will mark it by going to sleep."
