Three charities in the Ham & High area could get the chance to feature in the forthcoming Monopoly: Hampstead and Highgate Edition.

London-based Winning Moves UK will be launching the Monopoly: Hampstead and Highgate Edition board game in October - with squares already earmarked for landmarks such as Hampstead Heath, Highgate Cemetery and Parliament Hill.

Now the firm is looking for charities to be named on each of the game’s three community chest spaces.

There was a buzz when Mr Monopoly himself took to the streets of Hampstead in March to announce that more than 30 streets in the area would replace the classsic spots on the beloved board game.

The Chance and Community Chest cards will be customised - one card could send players ‘Back 3 Spaces’ for dropping litter on the Heath.

In selecting Hampstead and Highgate for a board of its own, the Winning Moves UK team said factors such as ‘pride,’ ‘sense of community,’ ‘fame,’ ‘environment custodians,’ and ‘heritage’ were considered.

The public has already been asked to suggest place names for the board.

And as the game's designers appeal for official local charities to represent Hampstead and Highgate, both the public and charities themselves can nominate themselves to feature.

John Keen-Tomlinson, the custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, which is producing the board under licence from Hasbro, said: "We would like to formally thank each and every person who has sent in nominations, and, as our way of a thank you, three Hampstead and Highgate charities will now get to star in the game.

“We feel that the charities getting to feature on each of the board’s three community chest spaces is a great fit, bearing in mind the ‘community’ aspect of these unique Monopoly features.”

The game will hit the shops in October this year.
