Disabled and elderly people in Collier Row have been targeted in a parking scam in recent weeks, the Met Police has said.

In a post on X, Collier Row policing team revealed that a man was seen approaching people parked in disabled bays and claiming that they need to register their badges on the new ticket machines.

He would state that he is in the car park to help people and is very convincing, the police said.

The scammer is then believed to be taking people to the ticket machines and asking them to insert their bank cards to steal the card details and pin number.

The police added: “If you are approached by anyone in a car park offering assistance, please do not engage with them. Disability badges do not need registering on the new ticket machines.

“This has happened a few times in Tesco Collier Row but is no doubt happening in other car parks. Please speak to friends, family and neighbours and make them aware.”
