A woman says she was racially attacked after being hit in the face and having her hijab grabbed.

The victim, who is in her 40s and was with three children, had left a shop in Stoke Newington High Street at around 1.40pm on November 18, 2023, when a woman made an offensive gesture to her.

She asked the woman what she was doing, and the woman reportedly began to racially abuse her.

The victim was attacked and hit in the face, leaving her with cuts.

The Metropolitan Police says that officers are treating this as a hate crime.

An image has been shared of a woman police would like to speak with to help with the investigation.

Detective Constable Harriet Ford, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim, made all the worse as it was witnessed by her young children.

“I would ask the public to take a good look at this image and consider if you have any information about her identity.”
