All traffic on the A2 has stopped in both directions near Pepper Hill due to a “serious” crash.
The motorway was shut London bound between B262 and A2260 in Springhead at around 8.30pm yesterday (April 5).
National Highways (@HighwaysEAST) warned motorists on X (formally known as Twitter) that the road would be shut “for a protracted period”.

In an update at 11.30pm, it confirmed that traffic was released eastbound while westbound remained closed.
The crash caused miles of congestion and severe delays in the area, according to AA.
Westbound closures were also released at around 5.30am today (April 6) and traffic has since returned to normal.
It is not yet known how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was seriously injured.
