Two people have been hospitalised after a blaze destroyed most of a two-storey house in Harold Hill this morning.

London Fire Brigade were called at 3.02am today (April 3) to Hitchin Close to reports of the incident.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the fire for about an hour. The brigade said most of the mid-terraced house was destroyed.

Two people left before firefighters arrived and they were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

Crews from Harold Hill, Romford, Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene, along with a crew from Essex Fire and Rescue Service.

The blaze was brought under control by 4.03am. London Fire Brigade’s 999 control officers received seven calls about the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
