This summer, the Olympic Games will be taking place in Paris, France. Since the first modern Olympics in 1896, the games have been held every four years and were inspired by the original Olympics held over 3000 years ago in Ancient Greece. So, whether travelling to Paris itself or watching from your screens, what events can you expect to see in 2024?

There will be a total of 41 olympic sports as well as 4 additional sports. Archery will be held at Les Invalides. The iconic Château de Versailles will house the modern pentathlon and equestrian events, but there are also more modern venues. For example, the brand new Porte de La Chapelle Arena will hold badminton and rhythmic gymnastics.

For the more aquatic inclined spectators, there is swimming and water polo at La Défense Arena, artistic swimming and diving at the Aquatics Centre and marathon swimming and triathlon events at the Pont Alexandre III, an old bridge in the city. Marseille Marina will host sailing and the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium will hold rowing, canoe sprint and canoe slalom events. Interestingly, the additional sport of surfing will be held at Tahiti at Teahupo’o, outside of France.

There are many more urban sports in the Olympics, particularly in recent years. BMX racing will be held at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium. The Place de La Concorde will host BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, breakdancing and skateboarding (the latter two being additional sports). Le Bourget Climbing Venue will be home to sport climbing, another additional sport.

Weightlifting, table tennis and volleyball will take place at the South Paris Arena, with wrestling and judo at the Champ de Mars Arena and taekwondo and fencing will be held at the Grand Palais. Beach volleyball will be at the Eiffel Tower Stadium.

The famous Roland-Garros Stadium will host tennis and boxing. Rugby will be played at the Stade de France, with athletics taking place there as well as at the Trocadéro. Also starting at the Trocadéro will be road cycling and track cycling will of course be located at the National Velodrome. Mountain biking will be at Elancourt Hill.

Footie fans will have some travelling to do, as football will be played at various stadiums throughout France. Hockey will be at the Yves du Manoir Stadium, handball will be at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium and shooting will be at the National Shooting Center. There will also be golf, unsurprisingly held at the Golf National. Finally, the Bercy Arena will hold trampolining, basketball and artistic gymnastics.
