A cannabis farm harbouring hundreds of plants has been uncovered by police in Dagenham.

Officers from the Dagenham safer neighbourhoods team busted the illegal operation after executing a warrant at an address in Broad Street on March 12.

The warrant was obtained after local officers worked with dedicated drugs officers to gather intelligence on the property and activity inside it.

After gaining entry, the teams seized 295 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £250,000, and arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis.

He has since been remanded on bail.

Police secured the property and seized the plants as part of an ongoing investigation.

A total of seven stop and searches were conducted, which led to the arrest of a man in Millard Terrace on suspicions of possession of a bladed article.

Inspector Ian Handley said: “This was a fantastic result in our efforts to disrupt organised crime groups who are operating across Barking and Dagenham.

"We understand how drugs supply effects the community and that these cannabis factories are often part of groups funding serious organised crime.

"If you have information on who is supplying drugs, report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
