A kebab shop in Welling has been given the second highest food hygiene rating after a reinspection from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Best Kebab Ye, located at 139 Bellegrove Road, has undergone significant improvements since their previous rating of 1, issued back in January.

The new rating of 4 follows a report released on March 19, 2024.

Standards found during the inspection included generally satisfactory hygiene in food handling, including areas such as preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were rated as good, as was the management of food safety.

The report said the kebab shop's records were "up to date", however continued to raise concerns that the ventilation system outside the building was not "meeting the requirements in the improvement notice".

The food safety inspector granted the takeaway restaurant an extension until the end of April to complete the works.

The previous rating of 1 came after inspectors found "dirty oil" leaking on the premises on January 11, 2024.

The full food hygiene report was uncovered in a Freedom of Information request from the Newsquest AI team.

The owner, Mikail Tunc, said after the previous inspection said: "We want to thank our loyal customer base for their support.

"We value our customers' trust and will continue to work hard to ensure the safety and quality of our food."

Only 1.1 per cent of Welling's food outlets have a rating of 1, with none receiving the lowest rating of 0.

The majority - 64.9 per cent - of restaurants have achieved the highest rating of 5.
