A historic Wetherspoon pub in Wanstead is set to be sold.

A spokesperson for the chain confirmed today (March 26) that The George in High Street is under offer from another pub company.

Wetherspoon has not revealed the company who could be taking over the venue.

The pub was formerly known as The George & Dragon Inn when it was built in 1716, but was renamed as The George in 1904 after it was rebuilt.

It was previously up for sale in 2012, when a Wetherspoon spokesperson advised they would continue leasing the pub up to 2034. However, these plans appear to have changed.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons told this paper today: "The pub will only close as if it is sold.

"It will remain open and trading as The George until it is sold."
