A driver from Devizes has been banned from the roads for one year.

Samuel Lake, of Eastleigh Road, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court for sentencing on Monday morning after committing two offences.

The 40-year-old admitted to failing to comply with the requirements of a community order made by the court on June 12, 2023, by failing to attend three appointments and failing to provide a reasonable excuse for these absences.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis to police when required on December 23, 2023, as part of an investigation into whether he had committed an offence after being suspected of having driven a vehicle.

While in the dock, the defendant said: “It was a stupid mistake, I can only apologise, I should not have done it.”

His current community order has been revoked and replaced with a new one that requires Lake to carry out 12 months of mental health treatment sessions, six months of an alcohol treatment programme, and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days.

He must also pay a £461 fine as well as £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services.
