This term has been one of the strongest in Epsom’s sporting history, with extremely talented players across all year groups proudly competing for the College in hockey, squash, netball, football and more! I hope that the school’s sporting prowess continues into the next term and beyond.

Hockey

To begin, the hockey this season has been groundbreaking for Epsom College records. The U14As have had a spellbinding season, making it to the National Finals for a big match against Repton. Although Repton are a tough side, the team played brilliantly and brought the game to a 1-0 win, with the goalkeeper making a few amazing saves along the way. This win was especially impressive as this is Epsom College’s first Hockey National Title!

The 1st XI hockey made it to the semi-finals for Nationals, playing at the Olympic Hockey Centre also against Repton. They lost 3-1 but had another chance in the 3rd/4th place game against Surbiton High where the close match led to a narrow loss of 1-0. Despite this, the team should be proud of finishing 4th in the country.

The U16A hockey also played in the semi-finals against Oakham, where a very tough and close game led to a 3-2 loss for Epsom. The girls didn’t let this get them down though, as they went into the 3rd/4th place match with positive mindsets. However, Manchester High, a very strong side, won 6-0 and although it was a gruelling match, it is a wonderful achievement to come 4th in the country.

Squash

Epsom College brought a strong team to the renowned Roehampton Independent Schools Tournament for a memorable day of squash. After easily beating Tonbridge, St Paul’s and Charterhouse in the group stage, they moved on to the semi-final against old rivals Harrow. Although it was close, Epsom came out on top.

In the final they played against the reputable Eton College, and secured a 5-0 win to place themselves into the Roehampton Club Honours Board for the sixth time!

Swimming

The swim team, consisting of swimmers spanning all year groups in the College from year 7 to Sixth Form, made it into the A final of the Schools Swimming Super League, coming out 5th out of 16 schools.

Rugby

The U15s played fantastically in the Surrey 7s tournament, finishing on top after beating St John’s 15-10 in the final.

In summary, in this term alone Epsom College sports teams have won 9 trophies (5 of which were national trophies), with 17 top-four finishes. Considering that over 600 matches have been played since January and 60 teams have represented the school, everyone should be proud of what they achieved, no matter which team they played for.
