Six fire engines were scrambled to a scaffolding yard blaze believed to have been caused by "unsafe" cigarette disposal.
The "unsafe" disposal of smoking materials was the believed cause of a fire at a scaffolding yard in New Road, Rainham, on Sunday (March 24), London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
LFB was called at 2.07am that day before six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Hornchurch, Wennington, Dagenham, Barking and East Ham stations attended.
The fire destroyed timber and scaffolding boards at the site and a LFB spokesperson promptly issued a warning.

“This incident serves as a timely reminder for smokers to ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.
“If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy properties, but also cost you your life.”
The blaze was under control by 4.24am on Sunday and there were no reports of any injuries.
"Make sure cigarettes are put right out and disposed of properly," LFB added.
