A crime scene remains in place in Hither Green 36 hours after a 31-year-old woman was stabbed to death.

Police were called to the scene at around 11.15pm on Wednesday (March 20) to an address in Manor Park and forced entry into the property.

A 31-year-old woman was found injured inside the property and she died at the scene.

A 24-year-old man was been arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in the area.

He remains in custody.

A crime scene was put in place on Staplehurst Road between Manor Park and Longhurst Road.

As of 11am on Friday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the crime scene currently remains in place.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know people will be shocked by this incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation."

Chief Superintendent Louise Sargent, responsible for local policing in Lewisham, said: "Tragically overnight a woman has been killed and we do not underestimate the impact this has on the local community and those who knew the victim.

"All of our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends as we do everything we can to support detectives as they go about their enquiries.
