A rapist who strangled and raped a woman in an alleyway has been jailed.

Daniel Jordan, of Downing Road, Dagenham, carried out the violent attack in Barking on October 15, 2022.

The 28-year-old approached a lone woman and began to assault her in an alleyway behind a parade of shops on Longbridge Road.

The victim described at one point that he strangled in and out of consciousness.

Jordan then fled the scene and police were informed.

DNA analysis identified Jordan and revealed he was a known offender, leading to officers arresting him at his home address on October 22.

He was charged and remanded the next day.

After a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court which ended on January 15 this year, Jordan was found guilty of rape, non-fatal strangulation and assault.

On March 15, he was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment with an extended license period of five years, and a 30 month sentence for both the non-fatal strangulation and assault. All will be served concurrently. He will also be on the sex offenders reregister for life.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Yexley, who works in the east London Metropolitan Police office investigating sexual offences, said: “This was a horrendous attack and I have the utmost respect for the victim survivor, as she has worked to come to terms with the extreme violence she was subjected to.

“She has demonstrated grace and tenacity through this trial and I hope it brings some comfort that a jury unequivocally saw this man for what he is.”
