A businessman in Blackheath is taking over the real estate world of TikTok, as his account @markrepps has bagged more than 10,000 followers and two million views on properties.

Mark Epps has been working for estate agents Winkworth for more than 40 years and an office in Chiswick and Hammersmith, before taking over the franchise in Blackheath 30 years ago.

He then opened the Greenwich office around 10 years ago, and there are now around 100 Winkworth offices across London and the UK.

Mark added: “We’re a family business – it’s my wife, my brother, and my sister.

“My sister does the sales progression in Blackheath, and my brother runs the Greenwich branch.”

Mark told the News Shopper that his management team have been with him for "decades" and now form the "backbone" of the operation.

Jon is his Associate Director in charge of lettings who has been with him for 15 years and was responsible for winning the British Property Awards - Best Lettings Office in Britain Award.

Jemma is his Associate Director in charge of property management who has been with him for 15 years, whilst Zoe has been responsible for directing finances for 15 years.

Steve has been with the company for 20 years and has taken Mark's Winkworth office to “number one” in the group for sales, lettings and management for four out of the last five years. This Is Local London:

Mark added: “We’ve helped more than 70,000 people move homes since we’ve been open.

“As we’re dealing with big volumes of properties, we have to have a well oil operation.”

Mark has more than 170,000 likes on his TikTok account, which celebrates and advertises stunning homes across the Blackheath and Greenwich areas.

He said: “Our social media manager is great; we’re so pleased with our TikTok.

“We’ve got around 10,000 followers on TikTok and 5,000 on Instagram – we’re trying to ramp up the content right now.

"Unfortunately though I broke my ankle five weeks ago so have had to adapt our approach - I'm now recording from home in front of a green screen but hopefully I’ll be back in full working action soon.

“We’ve previously done a feature on World Book Day, where we announced the winners of local schools who submitted some drawings to us."

Within four months of starting the social media channels, Mark’s Winkworth account has received thousands of views, with a couple of properties bagging more than two million views.

Despite focusing more on the social media side of Winkworth and sharing around four or five videos online daily, Mark still makes the effort to actively go into his offices for at least an hour or so every day.

"I’m in the very fortunate position of having great people running and working in my two offices which frees me to focus a considerable amount of my time on the social media side of things which I’m absolutely loving, although the work load is considerable", Mark said, as he adds it was a “little bit daunting” to start with.

He explained: “The more you do it, the more comfortable you get.

“Talking to the camera and being on social media is something I've not really done before.

“The biggest joy has been interacting with a lot of clients again, because some of the shoots can take two or three hours, and you're hanging out with the clients at the time.

“It's just been a really nice experience, because I haven't been doing the client side for a little while now.

“So yes, I'm really enjoying the process of what we're doing.”

Mark told the News Shopper that real estate has many ups and downs, but working with properties is merely an “upward trajectory”.

He added: “When our homes hit big numbers on a reel, we’re dealing with 2,000 comments, so there's quite a lot of work involved in getting back to people.

“And then you're going to get a lot of negativity as well just because of the nature of it.

“But for every 1,000 negative comments, you're getting 20,000 likes, so it is tempered and it’s just water off a duck's back.”
