Forensic officers have been spotted at the scene of murder investigation in Hither Green, after a woman was stabbed to death.

Police were called at around 11.15pm on Wednesday night (March 20) to an address on Manor Park and forced entry into the property.

A 31-year-old woman was found injured inside the property, and she died at the scene.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in the nearby area.

He remains in custody.

A crime scene currently remains in place.

Currently Staplehurst Road has been closed to Leehurst Road, with residents being required to sign in and out.

Forensic officers have now arrived at the scene, with sniffer dogs seen in the area.

An officer at the scene confirmed that the incident is believed to be isolated.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know people will be shocked by this incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation."

People living in the area will see an increased policing presence over the coming days.

Chief Superintendent Louise Sargent, responsible for local policing in Lewisham, said: "Tragically overnight a woman has been killed and we do not underestimate the impact this has on the local community and those who knew the victim.

"All of our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends as we do everything we can to support detectives as they go about their enquiries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11:09 last night (March 20) to reports of an assault on Manor Park, SE13.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance by car.

“Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
