The purchase of a "dormant" tower block scheme could mean the area's youth centre gets a new home.

This is the hope at Swiss Cottage's The Winch, after developer Regal London announced this week it had bought 100 Avenue Road in Swiss Cottage - and pledged to finish building a 24-storey tower block after work stalled in 2021.

As well as 184 homes, the scheme was to include a new home for the centre, in Winchester Road, which has served Swiss Cottage and Belsize since the 1970s.

The centre's chief executive Rashid Iqbal said the purchase marks a "significant step".

He said: "We are excited to see the revitalisation of the site, which has laid dormant for too long.

"We hope that the new owners commit to delivering the benefits that the development promised."

Original developer Essential Living lost at a public inquiry after an unsuccessful bid to reduce the "unviable" amount of affordable housing.

Regal London says it will seek amendments to the existing permission but Mr Rashid hopes the new home will come to fruition.

He added: "Whilst we love our landmark building, from which we have served the community for over 50 years, our new home will provide more space, improved accessibility and a fresh beginning for us to deliver our mission.

"We thank the Regal leadership team for engaging with us and we look forward to
working with them as they develop 100 Avenue Road into a welcoming space for every child to learn, grow, and flourish."
