Any female swimmers fancying a dip this week will have to go to the mixed ponds or lido.

The Kenwood Ladies Pond, off Millfield Lane, is closing on Monday (March 18) for essential maintenance work.

The pond will reopen next Saturday (March 23).

In the meantime, City of London Corporation, which manages all three Hampstead swimming ponds, said women may swim at the mixed pond or lido.

The mixed pond will reopen to women only at this time. It will close to the public again on March 23 until it reopens for the summer season.

As previously reported in the Ham&High, work began last April on a £900,000 project to improve disabled access and life saving facilities at the ladies’, mixed, and men’s bathing ponds.

At the ladies pond, work to the changing room showers, tiles, and ventilation needs completing.

The men's pond and mixed pond are also undergoing maintenance work but do not need to close.

Single session at the ponds cost £4.50 or £2.70 with concessions.

Cashless payment is preferred as correct change cannot be guaranteed for cash transactions.

Swimmers under 16 years and over 60 can swim free of charge up to 9:30am on production of proof of age.
