Londoners can expect some extra costs in the coming months as many authorities are set to increase their council tax.

It comes as from April, some residents in London boroughs will have to pay more than £80 a year in council tax fees.

Now, experts have calculated the expected rise of council tax across some London boroughs for homes in band D.

Home insurance experts at Quotezone.co.uk broke down the costs after the government permitted councils to increase tax rates by over 5%.

Greg Wilson, founder and CEO of Quotezone.co.uk said that households across the city should check to see how much their annual bills could be increasing.

He said: “Our research shows how much council tax is expected to increase in some of the London boroughs for band D properties.

“The majority of residents will be paying over £50 more on their annual bills - only Kensington & Chelsea, City of London, Hammersmith & Fulham, Wandsworth and the City of Westminster will see a lesser increase.

“Out of the boroughs analysed, only nine will be paying less than £1,400 for their council tax bill. Residents in Kingston Upon Thames will be paying the most at £1,813.46 from April and the City of Westminster the least at £492.36 - which is still an increase of almost £80 a year."

Out of the London boroughs analysed, only three will see a hike of less than £50, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and the City of Westminster.

The City of Westminster will see the lowest increase in council tax, with fees rising by £23.40 from £468.96 to £492.36.

Residents in Southwark, Newham and Tower Hamlets will all pay between £56 - £60 extra each year for their council tax.

Those living in Kingston Upon Thames currently pay the highest council tax rates in London, which is set to rise to £1,813.46 in April, an annual increase of £86.19.

Islington residents will be expected to pay over £65 more on their annual council tax payments, whilst for households in Lewisham bills will increase by more than £70.
