It can be hard to find an Indian restaurant in London that serves delicious, authentic food that won’t break the bank.

But never fear, I have found the perfect spot – Pravaas in South Kensington.

Just around the corner from the underground station, Pravaas is a beautiful, intimate restaurant serving food that is to die for.

Staff at the restaurant were incredibly helpful and friendly, guiding us through the menu to make sure we tasted the dishes we would like the best.

To start, we were brought an assortment of papadums with a garlic, tomato chutney and a mango chutney as we perused the menu.

We were also given the taste of Mumbai plate which was made up of three tasty appetisers – one of them came with a shot of coriander water which you poured in before you ate it making the bite fun and unique.

Then, to start, we told the manager the starters that were catching our eye and he was kind enough to bring us a plate with mini versions of a variety of starters so that we could properly sample the cuisine.

The first one I tried was wasabi fried chicken which was so innovative and interesting, an amazing start to the evening.

I’m not a huge fan of wasabi, but this chicken had the Unami flavour of wasabi without the overwhelming heat that puts many people off.

The next one was the smoked beetroot tikki which came with grilled goat cheese and balsamic dressing – the chef explained to us that she tries to add French elements into her food and it was really showcased here.

But, my personal favourite was the Richado masala fried squid – the fish was perfectly cooked and the spices were sweet and warm, it was so tasty and something I have never tried before.

For our main course, again Pravaas was kind enough to let us try a variety of dishes.

I did not know where to begin when we were presented with a delectable spread of amazing foods.

I started by trying the classic, chicken tikka masala and I urge anyone who visit as this restaurant to try it.

The chicken was tender and flavourful and the sauce was creamy and smoky.

However, if you are looking to try something a bit different then the monkfish curry was out of this world.

The fish was meaty but still tender and the sauce was rich and punchy, I had never tried anything like it before but I would go back just for another bite.

Something else we tried that was extremely unique to Pravaas was the lamb rogan josh.

The slow cooked quarter rack of lamb came out in a yoghurt, chilli and saffron sauce with potato dauphinoise.

Again, this was a genius way the chef here has merged French and Indian cuisine and while it might sound like it clashes, this was truly delicious and it really worked.

The lamb just fell apart when I dug into it, the sauce was divine and the potatoes were buttery and rich – it was amazing.

There was also a buttery lentil dahl and lasooni palok, a creamy spinach dish with brown garlic and dry fenugreek leaves.

For dessert, I went for the jackfruit crème brulee which came with “raspberry caviar” which were heavenly drops of raspberry liquid.

The crème brulee was creamy, sweet and rich but I could hardly finish it after being so full from all of the other delicious foods I had eaten.

My boyfriend went for the spiced chocolate fondant which he was wowed by, it came with orange jelly, white chocolate sauce and pistachio ice cream.

I can’t decide if the food or the service makes this spot so special, I suppose it’s the combination of both.

I had an unforgettable evening at Pravaas and can’t wait to head back again next time I’m craving Indian food with a twist.
