More than three-quarters of pupils in Havering were offered their first choice of secondary school this month.

National Secondary Offer Day on March 1 saw 3,388 applications made, an increase of more than 50 from last year.

All applicants were offered a place with 76 per cent getting their top choice - the sixth highest in all 32 London boroughs.

Around 95pc of pupils were given one of their top three preferences.

Councillor Oscar Ford, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Once again Havering has delivered for our young people.

"We have an increasing child population which has led to an increased demand for school places.

"With that in mind, I am pleased that most children making the move from primary to secondary schools will go to a school of their choice knowing that they will receive excellent teaching in equally outstanding environments."
